Reader Response to “Don’t Marry Career Women” – growing pains

The article is more insulting to men than women. I think men can decide for themselves what they seek in a spouse without a dumb study. Also, the “study” discusses a symptom of the disease that career women have rather than the cause: capitalism has not allowed women to successfully incorporate into the working world, so that something suffers–often the family. You still have to become a “man” to have a successful career in most fields; employers don’t want to face what it takes to keep and promote women – an understanding of the needs that a family has for its female head (and treating them with respect, of course). And then there’s the obvious: a man will get more obedience out of an idiot that is marrying him for his money and security than he might out of a true “partner,” but he will not get smarter children or a necessarily successful “marriage.” And men seem to know that more and more; they don’t marry their secretaries like they used to.

Apparently, men aren’t marrying anyone like they used to. Marriage rates are down very significantly over the past 40 years, while out of wedlock births have skyrocketed.

There is more to a “successful” marriage than household income. Two people on the treadmill of work-earn-spend won’t have much left over to put into a relationship. I’ve not seen many women who are happy making more than their husbands, they seem to generally lost respect for them. Eventually, there is little left but a hollow shell of a marriage. Probably better for all concerned to just skip the marriage and jump right to the divorce – saves money all the way around.
