If men would do some of the work then Career women would have more time to devote to the husband. Men want women to work and help pay bills but most do not want to help around the house. I have a career, husband , 2 kids and go to college part time. I also help mow the grass and clean house. IF men were like my husband and would help out sometimes maybe they would be happier wifes out there

American women are the most privileged group in the history of the world. They are the safest, the most pampered, and with the most options available to them of any group (including those horrible members of the “patriarchy”) the world has ever seen. Despite this fact, their “voice” is now a shrill cacophony of loud complaints that is heard above all others.

Like Elizabeth Corcoran’s article you never mentioned how much time you spend with your children. Are you or your husband luckily enough to work at home so you are there to raise your children? Or do you pawn off your children to day-care, pre-school, or some other 3rd party to take care of them while you are our working on your career and degree(s)?

One point that Michael Noer’s article didn’t emphasis is that if a man wants a family and a home with children that are raised by him and his wife then marrying a “career-oriented” woman may not be the best choice.

There used to be a time when being home raising your children, taking care of the house, providing a meal for your family was considered important. Do you think it is meaningless to be at home raising your children instead of someone else?

I would like to respond. I don’t think these are meaningless things, and I know many working women who want to spend time with their husband and children. Many talk about their families all day at work. However, some of you do not realize that it is often not an option for women not to work. With the cost of living in many areas, it takes two incomes to pay for a home in a decent part of town, pay for the items kids need, etc. Also, I am a single mother. I have had to work. Yes, I sent my son to daycare. I don’t believe there was another option, other than live on the side of the road and have him taken away from me.

No, if women would stay home instead of foolishly having a “career,” then they’d have more time to devote towards cleaning the house, raising the kids, and cooking the meals.

And then they wouldn’t needlessly complain about their husbands not doing what the women should be doing – namely, the women’s work.

i work for the postal service. I work while they are in school and I go to school while my husband keeps the kids . A good marriage goes a long way.

Brian-the article doesn’t mention the countless men that abbandon their SAHM after they have their children.  This is the reason why younger women today are getting educated and having careers.  They have learned from their mothers’ mistakes.

My mother was a SAHM, and my father treated her like a slave.  He even referred to her as “SQUAW”.  She tolerated this, and I had no respect for her as a child.  This is why I went to school—I wouldn’t allow this to happen to me.
