women who do not work outside the house are trapped by economics

Reader Response to “Don’t Marry Career Women” – women who do not work outside the house are trapped by economics

I’ve spend 20-plus years raising three daughters to understand their value in the world, and this article is astounding. What a leap of faith – statistics at work!

The reason that women without jobs stay married is that they cannot afford to live without their husbands’ incomes. They are trapped in their marriages by economics.

The article seems to say husbands of working women lose out because their wives have the financial independence to leave a bad situation. The underlying message is that husbands do better to have a caged wife than an equal partner.

Forbes could do better.

I want to be a house husband, stop insulting my lifestyle choice!

Careers suck, I wish I didnt have to go to work.

Where are all the rich women looking for house husbands?

Is it a real company capable of supporting a family, or more like a hobby?

In any case, bully for you. You’re happy.

Now you’re contradicting Noer–first you don’t like it if women work, and now you are punishing them for working.  You just don’t like women!  So bug off and quit wasting our time.

Postle, thanks for your nice post.  I invite you to read mine over the past few days by just clicking on my handle.  That way you will skip all the misogyny that has been flying around here.

I never said I agreed with Noer’s conclusions, but I do appreciate the information included in his article!

“The article seems to say husbands of working women lose out because their wives have the financial independence to leave a bad situation.”

Or a good situation, if they feel like.

Not only that, but they can get financially rewarded for doing so by going into the rent-a-kid-back-to-its-father-on-weekends business.

If it really is just “bad situations” (exactly whatever those are) that women should be able to get out of — and men too — then why not do away with “no fault” divorce so that we can know exactly how bad the situations are, and who’s to blame. If both are to blame then why do women get the house, the kids (the chief asset of the marriage), and the car, while the man just gets the bills?

The reason that women without jobs stay married is that they cannot afford to live without their husbands’ incomes. They are trapped in their marriages by economics.

Women are not being born jobless and in marriage. Absolute majority of newborn women start working at some point before marrying. In order to arrive to the described situation one has both to marry and to quit her job, which is her choice. Yet the poster blames economics.
Another example of escape of reality, escape responsibility, denial of logic, victimization, and other usual.

Also the divorce laws are such that very, very few women are trapped in marriage. It has been said thousands of times, I will not go into details.

‘Trapped by economics’ because they are not willing to undergo any hardship at all to get some job skills, and get out.
