ASHLAND — A woman who falsely accused her husband, an attorney for several local cities, of abusing her last spring was arraigned Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court on a felony assault and other charges.

Barbara Jane Knudsen, 49, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at her home in the 600 block of Cascade Street after allegedly assaulting her 13-year-old son, court records show.

According to Ashland police, the boy received minor injuries in the scuffle. The boy’s father, Kurt Hans Knudsen, 49, who lives at the residence, came home and took charge of both sons.

The arrest came the day after Knudsen and her husband filed for divorce, court records show.

A Jackson County Circuit Court judge acquitted Kurt Knudsen of assault charges Sept. 14, after it was revealed his wife was lying when she told police he had hit her in the face.

Ashland police arrested Kurt Knudsen April 27 at the couple’s home. Barbara Knudsen later testified that she had been drinking that night and fell on the bathroom floor, breaking her nose.

Kurt Knudsen resigned his position with Phoenix a week after he was acquitted of abuse charges.

His ex-wife now faces charges of felony and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and harassment.
