In today’s edition of the ABC-TV show, “The View,” Rosie O’Donnell said that “the person who was in charge of investigating all the allegations of pedophiles in the Catholic Church from the eighties until just recently was guess who. The current pope.” She said her source was an upcoming movie, “Deliver Us from Evil.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“There are several objections to today’s edition of ‘The View.’ What started as a discussion on the problems facing the disgraced former congressman Mark Foley, quickly digressed into a lengthy conversation about the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. Given the fact that the exchange began and ended with brief comments about Foley, it is obvious that the real target was the Catholic Church.

“According to one article on the film, it mentions that before Cardinal Ratzinger became pope, he wrote to all the bishops saying that ‘grave’ crimes such as the sexual abuse of minors ‘would be handled by his congregation….’ This is correct. He would be in charge. And when did he take command? After the scandal erupted in 2002. In other words, it is a lie to say that the pope, when cardinal, was ‘in charge of investigating all the allegations of pedophiles in the Catholic Church from the eighties until just recently.’ Indeed, it was precisely because of Cardinal Ratzinger’s no-nonsense approach that Pope John Paul II put him in charge in 2002. It was on Good Friday, March 25, 2005, a week before Pope John Paul II died, that Cardinal Ratzinger spoke about the scandal, saying, ‘How much filth there is in the church, even among those who, in the priesthood, should belong entirely’ to God.

“O’Donnell, and the other panelists, err again by talking about the ‘pedophile’ scandal in the Church: it’s been a homosexual scandal all along, as the data make painfully clear.

“We are writing to Barbara Walters, who co-owns and co-produces the show, and co-producer Bill Geddie, requesting an on-air apology for smearing the pope.”

What is it, half a percent of priests are bad? Or is it half of a half of a half of a percent? Who knows, hardly a reason to smear the whole church, but what would you expect from a bunch of liberals that want to legalize bestiality, sex with minors and a host of other evils.

They just want to smear a church at the same time due to our attacks on abortion and other Commie agendacide they love to promote!

They are only going to rile up women who see a rapist under every rock anyways! Women who should only think when their husbands direct them. These women shouldn’t think out loud!!!

Women have been proving for the last 30 years that men have been right for the last 30 centuries!

The people who are directly responsible are those priests who actually abused children. But it is rather ridiculous that the church in many cases chose to simply re-locate offenders (where they could do it again) rather than turn them over to authorities. Being in the religious community shouldn’t shield you from criminal prosecution if there is evidence to suggest that you committed a crime.

Again, we are talking about a handful of evil priests. They should allow these men to marry, but then the Catholic Church wouldn’t be the largest land holder in the world. When the men die they give their possessions to the church.

I think it’s probably more than a handful of priests, but I’d agree that the lifelong chastity requirements of the Catholic Church might be a bit counterproductive. It’s not really a natural state to deny yourself sexually. But when you release that pent up sexual frustration by molesting young children rather than a consenting adult, the church should view it as criminal and turn them over to the authorities.

1.  The church sanctioned moving priests and withholding evidence and information on offenders.  They knew what was happening and ignore it for their own version of the truth.
2.  The church opposes all methods of birth control (including condoms) except the rhythm method.
3.  The church (as do most organized religions) prey upon the uneducated, poor and the young.
4.  The chuch opposes abortion (I support it for the 1st trimester, when mother is in danger, etc.  After all, it is the woman’s body, and I am a man but if I am not intelligent enough to assume that the woman is lying about birth control and take responsibility for it myself I am a fool, period.).
5.  The church (like most organized religions and churches) is utterly corrupt and devoid of any moral or ethical barometer.

You do not do justice to the church. After the collapse of rome the roman catholic church was the only force who was able to try and bring a certain degree of order in a world of chaos. Of course that meant they had to fill a void in the political world and had to extend their field of operations well beyond spiritual matters.

The church has it’s problems, as does any organisation following a set code of values.

Some are better than others, none are perfect, it’s as simple as that.

Completely dismissing the church is throwing out the baby with the bathwater, not saying everyone that doesn’t believe in the religion is doing that (I don’t believe in the religion), but it bears noting that there is a lot of good about the church.

It also begs the question: Upon what code of values are we currently operating?

I think we’re proving that “none” is not as good as the values (good and bad )advocated by the church, or buddhism, or the koran for that matter.

Hate to inform you but the Roman Empire was much better off at it’s apex then Italy ever was under the church.  Read your history.  It is one of the most corrupt organizations ever founded.  Not much different that any other church.
